Major General Nick Justice joined PowerAmerica in January 2015. He was extremely active in establishing the newly formed institute sponsored by the Department of Energy. PowerAmerica is the first institute lead by a university.
Nick retired from the United States Army after more than 42- years of service as an American Soldier. He began his Army career as an enlisted Soldier drafted from his native state of North Carolina. As an enlisted soldier, he held numerous military occupation specialties including electronics warfare operator; telemetry analyst; telecommunications operator; an infantry platoon sergeant. He was later commissioned upon graduation from Officer Candidate School in 1977.
He earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Maryland, a master's degree in Management from Pepperdine University and a master's degree in International Relations from Salve Regina College. His military education includes a master's of science degree from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, the Senior Acquisition Course of the Armed Forces, and a master's degree from the United States Naval War College.
His recent assignments include Commanding General, Research and Development Command and Aberdeen Proving Ground where he led the transformation of the installation during Base Realignment. In 2010, the Association of Defense Communities named MG Justice Military Leader of the Year.
General Justice also served as the Program Executive Officer for Command, Control, and Communications-Tactical. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, he served as Commander of the Information Management Task Force in Kuwait and Iraq.
His coalition experiences include an assignment to the Sixth Allied Tactical Air Force as Chief, Project Management for Command and Control Systems during Operation Desert Storm as part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He also served as Task Force Commander for battlefield Information Management during Iraqi Freedom.
General Justice has received numerous awards and recognitions including being named the 2002 Army Acquisition Award for Excellence as PM of the Year Award. He was twice awarded Federal Computer Weekly's Federal 100 Award, once in 2004 and again in 2008 as well as the Monticello Award in 2004. In 2008 he received the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Award of Excellence in Information Technology. MG Justice was inducted into the Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 2009. General Justice currently consults in industry and education.
